Successful reinstallation of the first pipeline Liner in Brazil
In 2005, a research project was conducted in collaboration with CENPES and Petrobras to rehabilitate an existing oil pipeline in the Potiguar region (RN) by installing the Liner system. The 18 km pipeline was divided into 24 sections due to its condition, with thin steel walls. The installation of the Liner allowed the pipeline to be reactivated, and after approval, it was put back into operation.
After 18 years of operation, the PEAD PE 80 polymer material had reached the end of its useful life and required reinstallation of a new Liner. During the process of removing the old lining, we confirmed that the Liner system had successfully prevented any corrosion in the host pipeline, preserving the steel in the same condition as when it was originally installed.
In the sections lined with Liner, the steel was protected from corrosion for up to 18 years, allowing for the reinstallation of a new Liner.
The PEAD PE 80 Liner remained intact for over 17 years of operation with no maintenance required. The new PEAD PE 100 Liner we installed has an expected lifespan of 20 years.
